The Team Coordinator is responsible for two major components in the sample management Biobank department.  (1) They serve as the point of contact regarding service requests that have already been negotiated, service delivery, and problem solving.  (2) They also provide direct, hands-on guidance and technical leadership of all processing personnel assigned to them. 

Additionally, the Team Coordinator acts as the department’s Quality Ambassador and is responsible for seeking opportunities to improve processes, throughput, and new services and make these known to appropriate people or lead the changes themselves.

What You’ll Do

Ensure adherence to all company policies, project level requirements and SOPs. Ensure training of Biobank staff in operational processes such as registration, labeling and storage of samples. Provide input based on observation and experience regarding the performance and work habits of Biobank Techs. Assist supervisor with the writing and presenting of performance reviews. Direct the daily activities of Biobank staff and ensure tasks are completed in an efficient manner. Assist in resolving technical or operational problems to ensure an accurate and timely resolution. Coach employees and escalate any issues to management. Handle sample processing requests and delegate when appropriate. Process shipping/ discard requests via sample management system or manually created and unscheduled shipments.  Delegate as appropriate. Manage customers' inventory and provide sample management information upon request. Generate reports as needed to support the sample management team. Initiate change control requests as necessary. Ensure completion of QR resolutions received by client. Perform routine and non-routine quality checks as directed. Ensure all service failures are identified, investigated, and reported appropriately. Seek possible process improvements.  Assist in developing, implementing, validating and testing of new processes. Fill in for Team Supervisor in their absence

Quality Ambassador

Motivates team to provide high quality service by sharing guidance and best practices related to quality in the department. See things from the client perspective and teach the team that quality matters for both client and business outcomes.  Keep team up to date with quality developments in the department. Understand and review metrics and objectives to continually improve quality in the biobank. Address issues with quality and regularly engage in non-judgmental conversation about quality areas for improvement. Keep team up to date with quality developments. Escalate quality wins and team members deserving recognition to leadership.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree + 1 year demonstrated proficiency in a Biobank or related position.
  • OR Associate Degree + 3 years demonstrated proficiency in a Biobank or related position.
  • OR HS Diploma + 4 years demonstrated proficiency in a Biobank or related position.
  • One year experience as a full-time Biobank Technician II, Regulated Technician, and/or Senior Biobank Technician at Azenta and shown proficiency in all essential functions of a Biobank Technician
  • Has not been issued any corrective action of any type (documented warnings/PIP) within the last 6 months
  • IATA Certified, preferred
  • Life Sciences Degree, preferred
  • GMP/GTP/CLIA Experience, preferred
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Have demonstrated ability to talk to customers, managers, technical personnel with credibility
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; able to work across organizational lines
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and make good decisions when communicating with customers.
  • Demonstrated high level of initiative and ability to work independently
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Physical Requirements

  • Reaching, lifting, bending
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Extended periods of standing or sitting
  • Right- and left-hand finger dexterity
  • Ability to discern colors or use of color correction glasses
  • Ability to work with refrigerants (e.g., dry ice and LNs) using proper PPE

Your Working Conditions: 

  • Employee will be working in an area with potentially infectious materials.
  • Employee will be responsible for maintaining a clean work environment and enforce and follow Universal Precautions for bloodborne pathogens when working in an area considered to be potentially contaminated.
  • The position requires flexibility to report to either the Indianapolis or Plainfield facility based on business needs.
